Art That Survives Dubai: Sun, Humidity and All-Day AC

Dubai homes put artwork through conditions much of the world never sees: intense sunlight, humid summers near the coast, and air conditioning running almost all year. Here is what that does to wall art, and how to make yours last.

The sun

Strong UV light fades colour over time, and floor-to-ceiling glass lets a lot of it in. Afternoon sun on west-facing walls is the harshest.

  • Avoid walls that get direct sun for hours a day. Indirect light shows art better anyway.
  • Filter the glass. Sheer curtains or UV-filtering window film on west-facing windows protect everything in the room, not just the art.
  • Rotate pieces if a favourite wall gets strong light for part of the year.

What we use: museum-grade archival inks, backed by a 10-year colour guarantee. Like any artwork, it lasts longest out of direct, all-day sun.

Humidity

Canvas is a natural fibre, and humid air, especially in coastal communities like the Palm, Marina and JBR, can make thin canvas slacken and soft frames warp.

  • Avoid damp walls, such as walls shared with a bathroom that has poor extraction.
  • Keep air moving in rooms that stay closed for long periods.

What we use: heavy 380 GSM, 100% cotton canvas, stretched tight on solid wooden stretcher bars so it holds its shape.

Air conditioning

Cold, dry air blowing straight onto a canvas, and big temperature swings when the AC goes off in an empty summer villa, both put stress on artwork.

  • Don't hang art directly under or beside an AC vent.
  • Travelling in summer? Keeping the AC on a low setting rather than switching it off helps protect everything in the house, art included.
Good art should outlast the sofa, the rugs and the paint on the walls.

Dust and cleaning

Dust is a fact of life here. Clean your canvas gently with a soft, dry brush or a clean microfibre cloth, using light strokes. Never use water, sprays or cleaning products on the printed surface.

Hang it securely

Large canvases need proper fixings chosen for your wall type, whether that's blockwork or gypsum board. If you'd rather not guess, our team installs anywhere in Dubai.

Quick checklist

  • No direct, all-day sun
  • Not above or beside an AC vent
  • Not on a damp or bathroom-shared wall
  • Dust with a dry brush or microfibre cloth only
  • Fixings matched to your wall type
